Dissemination

Family Living Educators (FLEs) in a fifth of Wisconsin counties are involved in information dissemination related to aging.

Print/Online publications

These publications provide information on issues relevant to older adults and their families or caregivers, and can be disseminated in print, via email, or using other innovative methods. Examples include:

  • Newsletters: Living Well in our Best Years (Bayfield County). This is a publication  for older adults and caregivers that is produced by the Extension FLE in collaboration with the ADRC. It includes information on legal issues, financial planning, and stress management. Contact Liz Lexau for more information.  Example newsletter.
  • Blog posts: Example from Brown County.
  • Social media: (e.g., Facebook or Twitter posts) UW Extension Family Living Facebook page
  • Guest newsletter articles: For example, FLEs in at least three counties contribute articles to their ADRC or Home and Community Educator newsletters. These articles are on a variety of topics, including health and finances.
  • Newspaper articles: Example from Terri Ward in Kenosha County
  • Reports: The FLE in Kewaunee County collaborated with the ADRC, a local respite care, and Curative Connections to disseminate a quality of life report and create awareness of aging issues.  Contact Renee Koenig, Family Living Educator, Kewaunee County, renee.koenig@wisc.edu.  View the Kewaunee County Quality of Life Report Kewaunee County Quality of Life Rpeort 2012 .
  • Infographic:  This can be inserted in any print material or social media.  It can also be a stand-alone print item for use with media or one on one.  Wisconsin Caregiving Infographic (handout edited two to a page).  Use this box link to edit the infographic for your county.

TV/Radio

TV or radio appearances can be a good way to get information out to community members about programs, best practices, or new research findings. Some examples include:

In-Person

FLEs share information that they have around aging, caregiving, and policy. This might include having a booth at the farmer’s market, visiting local libraries and senior centers, sharing handouts at food pantries, among other opportunities.

FLEs also report cross-publicizing events within and beyond Extension, for example by advertising ADRC or senior center opportunities during their educational programming.

Wisconsin Caregiving Infographic (edited two to a page for sharing on paper) is a great tool to use in person for demonstrating the impact of caregiving on individuals. You may also want to have local data on the infographic, like Caregiving in Wisconsin (with Brown County on page 2) .  Use this box link to edit the infographic for your county.

Systems-level

In addition to sharing information directly with residents, FLEs often present information to county boards, coalitions, special interest groups, and other groups aiming to affect system-level change. See the Coalitions section for more information and ideas, including stand-alone, single-session programs that may be relevant for these groups.
