Service projects from the Armstrong 4-H Club in Fond du Lac County

Activity: Interactive visits to the Ivy Manor Retirement Home

Group: Armstrong 4-H Club — Fond du Lac County

Date of Activity: December 2013 and February 2014

Number of people: 21 youth; 8 adults

Number of hours: 4 hours per person

Our members visited residents of the Ivy Manor Retirement Home for Christmas caroling and BINGO. 4-H members sang songs and played games. Prizes for BINGO were donated and greeting cards were distributed.

Senior citizens were filled with holiday spirit and joined in many songs of caroling. They were very happy to play bingo with our youth and seemed to enjoy the prizes given out.

The 4-H youth learned that many senior citizens just want to visit or have a companion — they don’t need much help at games. They like having young children around to tell stories to.

Activity: Roadside clean-up on Highway 45

Group: Armstrong 4-H Club — Fond du Lac County

Date of Activity: May, August and October 2013

Number of people: 24 youth; 6 adults

Number of hours: 3 hours per person

Our club does roadside clean-up on several miles of Highway 45 east of Eden. We collect a lot of garbage and debris that is littered on the side of the road. The community is kept cleaner and neater because of our clean-up efforts, and our youth have learned to keep their garbage in their vehicle until it can be disposed of properly.
