Bradford 4-H Club serves community in variety of ways

Activity: Making care packages for overseas service members

Date of Activity: April 26, 2014

Number of people: 40 youth; 20 adults

Number of hours: 2 hours per person

Members brought in items to be boxed and shipped to military members that are serving our country overseas and away from family. The service members were able to obtain a little “love” from our club in the form of the box filled full of goodies.

Members understood that there are community service members that have to spend extended time away from their family and they miss the activities in the community.  We were able to send a little “Thank You” to them in the form of treats, books and toiletries.

Activity: Filling Easter eggs for Carver-Roehl Park Easter Egg Hunt

Date of Activity: April 7, 2014

Number of people: 9 youth; 5 adults

Number of hours: 1 hour per person

Members filled hundreds of plastic Easter eggs with candy for the local Easter Egg hunt held at Carver-Roehl Park.

Members had fun filling the eggs and knowing it was for a great cause.

Activity: Food drive for the Clinton Food Pantry

Date of Activity: January 13, 2014

Number of people: 40 youth; 20 adults

Number of hours: 1 hour per person

Members brought in canned or boxed items to our meeting to be donated to the local food pantry. The impact of our donation was to local community that is serviced by the Clinton Food Pantry.

The club members realized there are families in our own community that do not have enough income in order to purchase wholesome and good tasting good.  The club emphasized that during the holiday season more food is given out and the pantry needs to be restocked for the everyday need.

Activity: Making lap blankets for Clinton Nursing Home

Date of Activity: November 30, 2013 – December 11, 2013

Number of people: 29 youth; 18 adults

Number of hours: 8.5 hours

Club made tie lap blankets for nursing home residents that do not get a lot of visitors or do not have families that can purchase Christmas gifts for them. The residents that do not get a lot for Christmas were given a nice blanket as a Christmas gift.  The blankets were hand delivered by members, along with a nice Christmas card.

The members were able to understand that not everyone in the community has a family that can give Christmas gifts.  They were able to see the excitement from the resident when they received the gift.  The club also received Thank You cards from either the resident or their family and members were able to know their gift was special.

Activity: Petting zoo at Carver-Roehl Park

Date of Activity: October 13, 2013

Number of people: 3 youth; 2 adults

Number of hours: 6 hours per person

Members brought 4-H animals to Carver-Roehl park as part of the petting zoo for the community. The park was set up with many different activities for the local community and one section was the petting zoo.  Allowed people who might not come in contact with farm animals a chance to get more information on the animal and get to touch the animals.

Our members learned that even in a farming town there are still many people in our community that do not come in contact with farm animals.

Activity: Bringing therapy animals to the Rockton Nursing Home

Date of Activity: May 8, 2013

Number of people: 2 youth; 1 adults

Number of hours: 2 hours per person

Members took rabbits to the nursing home for “cuddle time”.  Members helped nursing home residents hold and pet the rabbits. The nursing home residents are not allowed to have animals but the joy of being with one is tremendous.  Just being able to touch and hold a rabbit brings great joy and calmness to them.

Members were able to see the nursing home residents “light up” when holding a rabbit and the joy it brought to them to hold the animal.
