Activity: Making Blankets for the Red Cross
Group: Shawano County 4-H Older Youth Group
Date of Activity: April 1, 2014
Number of people: 15 youth; 2 adults
Number of hours: 2 hours per person
The Shawano County 4-H Older Youth Group tied ten blankets for the American Red Cross. The club financed the blankets through their annual 4-H Food Stand fundraiser. The people who were impacted by this community service project received a fleece lap blanket. These blankets carry warmth, belonging, and love from the 4H members who participated in the activity.
The 4-H youth learned to care for someone else other than themselves. Through giving someone else a blanket they are experiencing generosity and mastering their skill of giving. They are giving someone else the sense of belonging because someone cares about them. Also, the 4-H youth learned how to work and communicate with others.
