Each year the farmer-led councils develop a conservation incentives program that is tailored to their watershed. These incentives are designed to encourage watershed farmers to get more data and information about their soil and farming system, to enable and encourage them to try new practices, to become familiar and engaged with the watershed council and project partners, and to strengthen the farming community. Initial funding for the incentives program was provided by the McKnight Foundation since 2014. A second source of funding was provided by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection in 2016. Both sources of funding continue to support the current incentives program.
